For years, whey protein shakes only appealed to fitness enthusiasts.
But—as I shared yesterday—this tasty, nutritionally dense product holds great health-boosting potential…
Even when it comes to fighting cancer!
A powerful nutritional punch
We discussed the nutritional profile of whey protein yesterday.
So today, let’s break things down a bit further.
The essential amino acids in whey protein—plus the quick absorption rate—are what, in my opinion, make whey protein so effective against cancer.
Yes, research explains how whey protein can help inhibit cancer cell growth by influencing different signaling pathways.
But feeding your body the nutrients it NEEDS to help fight disease is equally essential.
In fact, it’s why I always recommend my cancer patients to add whey protein to their diets.
After all, it’s not uncommon for cancer patients to suffer from malnutrition, potentially worsening their condition.
But adding whey protein isolate to anything—water, coffee, soup, tea, smoothies—is an easy (and tasty) way to get in extra calories and much needed nutrients.
Whole-body boost
There are many products on the market that contain subfractions of whey protein.
These include bovine lactoferrin, colostrum, and alpha-lactalbumin. They’re sold under a variety of names. And they have preliminary studies to support their potential.
Meanwhile, whey protein supplementation is backed by human clinical trials.
Research suggests a positive link between whey protein and cancer patients, marked by improved nutritional and performance status, higher glutathione (an amino acid) levels, and stronger immune system activity.
And get this…
Whey protein isn’t just effective against cancer. In fact, it offers numerous health benefits, including for weight loss, muscle mass preservation, digestion, and blood pressure.
So, why not add it to your healthy diet?
For the record, it’s something I’ve always incorporated into my daily plan. And the best part is, you don’t have to drink it—you can cook with it, too! (Click here to watch how I use it when making dessert crepes… yum!)
Until next time,
Dr. Fred
