Bananas are high in sugar

Bananas are bad news

I know you love them. I know they’re the least expensive fruit you can buy. But I have to tell you–bananas are bad news. They have one of the highest sugar contents of any fruit. And the riper they get, the more sugar they have.

Of course, when I tell my patients they shouldn’t eat bananas, I always get the same response: “But what about potassium?”

Here’s a great swap that will ensure you get plenty of potassium, without all the sugar of a banana: macadamia nuts.

They’re a great source of potassium. Not to mention lots of other vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, flavonoids, antioxidants, and amino acids. Plus, macadamia nuts contain those all-important monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). MUFAs will help keep you satisfied far longer than a banana.
