Curry as a cure-all?

Vindaloo vindicated

I can’t come out and say curry is a cure-all… But so far, the evidence is pretty promising.

Several studies over the last year have pointed to the health benefits of curcumin. (Curcumin is the primary ingredient in curry.) And now there’s an especially interesting one involving Parkinson’s disease.

Researchers investigated a specific strain of proteins (called a-Synucleins). These proteins can clump together. And that contributes to the onset of Parkinson’s.

But the scientists discovered that curcumin binds to these proteins. Which prevents them from clumping together. So curcumin may be able to prevent Parkinson’s disease. Or even alleviate existing cases.

As far as I’m concerned, that’s reason enough to make a trip to your favorite Indian restaurant this weekend.
