It’s encouraging to see mainstream science finally catching up with what many of us in integrative medicine have known all along: Natural compounds can deliver powerful results.
Today, I want to spotlight one supplement that’s been making waves—not just in functional circles, but in mainstream research, too.
And it couldn’t have come at a better time. We’re in the middle of a global diabesity epidemic—and demand for effective blood sugar support has never been higher.
A plant-based breakthrough for blood sugar
Berberine is a compound found in several medicinal plants. I’ve recommended it for years as a powerful tool to support metabolic health—and now, new research is giving it the recognition it deserves.
A recent clinical trial looked at a specific form—berberine ursodeoxycholate (HTD1801)—in people with Type 2 diabetes.
And get this…
Researchers noted remarkable improvements in long-term blood sugar (A1c) and short-term “fasting” glucose after just 12 weeks—especially in those starting with blood sugar levels well above normal.
In fact, over half of the participants taking 1,000 mg of HTD1801 reached A1c levels below 7.0—compared to just 15.2 percent in the placebo group.
That’s a HUGE win—especially considering many patients started with A1c levels as high as 11! (“Normal” is under 5.6—but for tough-to-treat Type 2 diabetics, a score of 7.0 or less is excellent.)
Plus, unsurprisingly, those same participants saw improvements in cholesterol markers and liver enzymes—two common concerns in people with metabolic issues.
Why blood sugar balance matters for everyone
We’re living in a time when blood sugar problems aren’t just common—they’re epidemic.
I call it the diabesity era—where weight and blood sugar issues affect people of all ages, diagnosed or not.
But here’s the thing…
Blood sugar control isn’t just about preventing (or reversing) diabetes. It also helps with anti-aging, brain health, heart health, and even cancer prevention.
That’s why I recommend berberine not only for people with blood sugar issues, but also for anyone looking to optimize their metabolic health. (And especially for those seeking non-drug options—berberine is science-backed and centuries-old.)
Berberine has always been a go-to in my toolkit—and now, the latest research confirms what we’ve known all along: This natural compound works.
