Glucose meters detect DEADLY viruses?

Glucose meters are everywhere.

They’re little devices that measure the amount of sugar (glucose) in your blood. They’re easy to use, can go anywhere, and can even transmit data.

Of course, diabetes sufferers use them daily to monitor blood sugar levels.

But now, researchers adjusting these nifty little devices to sense other target molecules—including one DEADLY virus…

Detect antibody levels at home

In the Journal of the American Chemical Society, researched reported that glucose meters could someday be used to monitor your own COVID-19 antibody levels.

In fact, they have been coupling detection mechanisms with glucose production. Meaning that, if a detected antibody in the test binds to an antibody in your blood, a reaction will occur that produces glucose—signaling that the target antibody is present.

This is crucial when it comes to COVID-19—a DEADLY virus—as there’s currently no at-home test to assess how long you’re protected against infection or reinfection.

And a good indication of immune protection directly relates to antibody levels.

Currently, the gold standard tool used to measure COVID antibody levels—the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)—requires expensive equipment, specialized technicians, a blood test, and a trip to the doctor’s office.

So, this is welcome news. And if it comes to fruition, you know I’ll be running out to buy my own glucose meter immediately (while encouraging everyone I know to do the same).

Natural defenses

As most of us would like for COVID-19 to go away… for GOOD… that just isn’t happening.

That’s why I always aim to provide you the tools to best protect yourself.

From safety measures that can help minimize spread and infection risk, to better understanding your antibody protection against the virus at any given time.

Of course, this at-home, antibody/glucose test isn’t yet available.

So, for now, continue to be vigilant. Vow to protect yourself and those around you. Keep your antibody levels high through vaccination. And, of course, boost your body’s natural defenses through healthy lifestyle choices.
