The anti-aging business is huge these days.
After all, we’re all looking to age gracefully and in good health.
But what if I told you that a ‘golden’ supplement may be the key to reaching those golden years… by keeping you on your feetlonger?
Here’s what I mean…
Fish oil saves the day
Results from recent double-blind randomized control trial found that omega-3 supplements can help reduce fall risk up to 17 percent.
Over 2,000 participants, 70 and older, were randomly assigned to one of eight groups. Each received one of the following interventions: omega-3 supplementation (1 gram daily of EPA and DHA), at-home exercise programs, and 50 mcg (2,000 IU) of vitamin D.
Over three years, 3,333 falls were recorded among participants. And, ultimately, omega-3 supplementation offered the highest protection against debilitating falls.
The overall reduction rate was modest at just 10 percent. But—I’ll take it! (All you need is one bad fall to cut your healthy life short. So, preventing one in 10 falls is good enough for me.)
Not to mention, a side analysis revealed that participants with higher levels of omega-3s in their blood at study onset experienced an even greater reduction. Their fall risk was slashed by 17 percent!
And that just goes to show that the earlier you start supplementing with omega-3s, the better.
Stay on your feet
Fish oil contains essential omega-3 fatty acids, including the all-important EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which our bodies NEED to perform basic biological functions, such as building new cells and reducing inflammation.
So, while fish oil supplements may be big pills to swallow, the benefits are well worth the effort.
(Omega-3s have been linked to virtually everything from boosting life expectancy, cognitive function, and mood… to preventing autoimmune disorders, falls, and relieving arthritis pain.)
That’s why I routinely recommend a fish oil supplement that contains 3,000 mg of both EPA and DHA. (I take this amount daily myself—and have been for years!)
But—buyer beware! Some generic, low-quality brands may contain 2,000 mg of fish oil, but only 300 mg are EPA/DHA. And that’s not nearly the optimal dose you need to gain the many remarkable health benefits.
Of course, when it comes to staying on your feet, strength is also key. Consistent movement and adequate protein intake will also help ward off falls.
