Prolotherapy: A method of injection treatment designed to stimulate healing.
Various irritant solutions are injected into the ligaments, tendons and joints to encourage repair of damaged tissue.
Many chronic musculoskeletal problems are caused from increased laxity of tendons and ligaments of joints causing the structure to become incompetent. Prolotherapy strengthens these structures by facilitating a repair process.

The word “prolo” refers to proliferation, which means the formation or development of cells. We administer Prolotherapy using dextrose, ozone, or PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma): PRP is derived from a person’s own blood.

A person’s blood is made up of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood, however the platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are super important for healing and regenerating injured body tissues. The concentration of platelets and thereby growth factors found in PRP is 5-10 times greater (richer) than what is found in the blood.

During the office visit blood is taken from the patient, is then placed into a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from the other cells and increases the concentration. The PRP is then injected into the area being treated.

PRP is being researched all over the world and is currently being used to successfully treat chronic tendon injuries, acute joint injuries, arthritis of all joints, fractures and surgical procedures.
