More weight = more cancer risk

Here we go again.  A new study found that high body mass index (BMI) is to blame for nearly half a million cases of cancer each year worldwide.  In other words, if you’re overweight, you’re more likely to get cancer. Period.

Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer looked at BMI and cancer incidence in adults aged 20 or older. They found that in 2012, excess body weight was the culprit behind 481,000 new cases of cancer, mostly in North America and Europe. In contrast, tobacco is responsible for 200,000 new cases of cancer each year.

The study also suggested that women face a bigger risk than men. Uterine, postmenopausal breast, and colon cancers accounted for 63.6 percent of cancers attributable to high BMI.

With more people than ever overweight and BMIs reaching new heights every year, it’s just a matter of time before we’re facing a cancer epidemic like nothing the world has ever seen before.

If only the powers that be would put as much effort into stopping the obesity epidemic as they do into their quit-smoking campaigns, perhaps we would finally make some real progress when it comes to curing cancer.

Yet year after year, the federal health agencies scratch their respective heads and can’t figure out a way to stem the tide. Mainly because they refuse to address the real cause of this deadly epidemic.

Yes, sugar.

It’s everywhere. And it’s killing us.

Yet instead of regulating it to protect the public from its deadly effects—like they did with alcohol and tobacco—the government actually subsidizes sugar. So what I’d like to know is exactly whose side our government health authorities are on in this never-ending war on cancer?

Certainly not yours or mine—that much is clear.

Luckily, you don’t have to wait for the powers-that-be to come to their senses. (What a long wait that would be.) I’ve been helping my patients avoid cancer—and many, many other chronic obesity-related diseases—for decades. And I’ve compiled all of my recommendations into one detailed report, titled Cancer-Free for Life. This comprehensive guide is available on my website and will spell out everything you need to know to stop cancer before it starts—or to beat it if you’re already facing this devastating diagnosis.
