New study links healthy diet to healthy kidneys

Whether you’re diabetic or not, it’s a fact that kidney health is integral to overall health. And I recently read yet another study that proves it.

Researchers in Ireland analyzed questionnaires (completed by over 500,000 participants of the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study) that assessed diet quality, as well as sodium and potassium intake. Higher-quality diets were associated with a 16- to 23-percent reduced risk of needing dialysis or dying from kidney problems.

Higher-quality diets included plenty of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats. You know, the same staples I’ve been telling you to eat for years.

I’ve written about the importance of kidney function before—and warned you that kidney disease is running absolutely rampant in this country. So the New Year is the perfect time to revisit this critical subject, and learn how you can start 2015 off right by taking steps to assess, safeguard, and improve your kidney function.

The article “The silent killer hiding behind the diabetes epidemic” that appeared in the August 2012 issue of my Logical Health Alternatives newsletter is a great place to start.
