Results I won’t ignore

I was reading the latest news on supplements and medical therapies and came across the following great headline: “Results that cannot be ignored.” How can you not stop and read that story, right?

So of course, I read it. And was so impressed, I thought it would make front-page news around the world…

But instead, once again, it’s been completely ignored by the mainstream media.

They harp about the fact that nutritional supplementation is never studied in a fashion they find acceptable. They are biased of course. But in this particular study, there can be no arguments made against it. So why are they still not covering it?

I could go on and on…but that’s enough politics for now. Let me get to the good stuff and tell you the exciting news…

You may be able to slash your risk of dying from heart disease by over 6 percent!

All thanks to a simple combination of two very inexpensive and easy-to-find nutrients: Selenium and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).

If a drug could do that, people would be lined up around the block of their nearest pharmacy to get some.

Results of the study were just published in the International Journal of Cardiology. It was a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Researchers looked at long-term supplementation over 5 years.

The dose of CoQ10 was 200 mg per day. The dose of organic selenium was 200 mcg per day. Researchers used this combination of nutrients because selenium and CoQ10 are synergistic. And the vital relationship between the two is important for optimal functioning of cells.

Results showed that 12.6 percent of the people in the placebo group died. That’s compared to only 5.9 percent of the people who were taking the supplements. That’s a 6.7 percent decrease in absolute risk!

Researchers also found the combination improved overall heart function as well.

A biomarker of tension in the heart wall (the BNP) was also tested. BNP can be an indicator of heart failure. And it was found to be significantly lower in the supplement group.

The BNP is an interesting test and one I use often in my practice. It essentially tells you how effectively your heart is pumping. It’s a great test to ask your doctor about if you have known heart disease or are in an older population group.

But that’s not all…an echocardiogram was also performed on these patients. Results revealed a significantly better cardiac-function score in the supplementation group.

So, all in all, this was a great study with amazing results. Yet, have you seen it discussed anywhere else but here? Sadly, most mainstream journalists only do part of the job…so luckily you have me.
