REVEALED: More truths about COVID-19

Let me ask you a question: Would you rather this pandemic continue to be politicized… or would you prefer for science to lead us out of our current national disaster? I know which side I’m on—and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you.

After all, Americans are literally dying right now because of politicians. (Notice I didn’t say they’re dying because of politics—everyone in this country is free to believe and support what and whom they choose.)

But when a politician is allowed to mold public health policy based on their agenda rather than the facts, well… that’s politicizing. And it has to stop now if we want any hope of surviving this crisis as a country.

An assault on transparency

Remember when I wrote about the threat of censorship? Well, it’s no longer just a threat—it’s happening.

Not only are we abandoning the World Health Organization (WHO) (though hopefully there will be a regime change before this goes into effect, for all of our sakes) but now, we’re muzzling the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), too.

No matter what your ideological beliefs, these are committed scientists that have done nothing wrong during this crisis—and please don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

They may not have always made the right decisions along the way. (And you know I’ll be the first to call out questionable recommendations when I see them.) But we’re dealing with an unprecedented threat… and no one has made the right decisions 100 percent of the time.

I can, however, think of one person who has continually made the wrong decisions—and that’s our supposed “leader.”

The latest example? This administration doesn’t like the latest coronavirus numbers that are coming out. So, they’ve simply decided to deny your access to them.

And if that doesn’t outrage you, then you haven’t been paying attention.

Don’t believe me? Well, you don’t have to take my word for it. Because it just so happens that these very statistics were removed overnight from the CDC website.

Get a load of this autocratic dictatorial behavior…

The truth behind the curtain

Ever since this pandemic started, the CDC has been publishing data on the availability of hospital beds in ICUs across the country. But just last week, all of that public data disappeared from the agency’s website, without any warning whatsoever.

That information is now under the control of the Trump administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). And while the CDC still has access to it, the public does not.

The director of the CDC has confirmed that states were instructed to stop sending their hospital data directly to the agency’s National Healthcare Safety Network for reporting. Now, it’s all to be funneled through the HHS—supposedly to “streamline data reporting” to government officials.

But of course, this also makes the data less transparent. As a result, we’ve lost access to critical indicators that ultimately saved the Northeast this spring. And that could still guide the way toward our steady and safe reopening. (Well, steady and safe for now, at least.)

ICU capacity and bed availability are key indicators of state performance when it comes to managing the challenges of this pandemic. And now that this information is hidden, Trump’s HHS can alter the public picture any way it wants. All in the midst of a public health crisis that appears to be worsening at a rapid rate.

But really, what else would you expect from America these days? Especially when something as simple and common-sense as wearing a mask—a decision that affects others just as readily as it affects you personally—somehow becomes a political statement.

So, we might as well be bracing ourselves for more confusion, more misinformation, more panic. Because when the blind leads the blind, it’s always a perfect set-up for disaster.
