The crooked truth behind modern cancer research

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want. But you should know that I base these “theories” on real articles that simply state the facts.

I don’t share all of these articles with you, obviously. But this latest one? Well, it’s a real doozy, to say the least.

So today, let’s talk a little more about disingenuous scientists and their ties to big industry… and how it affects every one of us in very serious — and very dangerous — ways.

Lies by omission are still lies

I’d like to put today’s spotlight on one researcher in particular: Dr. José Baselga. He’s the chief medical officer at New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

He also has close ties — through board memberships or advisory positions — to some of the biggest names in Big Pharma, including Roche and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Not to mention a vested interest in start-up companies developing new cancer therapies.

In fact, he’s had a direct role in developing a number of “breakthrough” breast cancer drugs. And yet, he’s omitted this little detail from the dozens of research articles he’s helped author — which have appeared in big, prestigious mainstream medical publications, from The New England Journal of Medicine to The Lancet.

Can you smell the conflict of interest here?! Because this debacle reeks of it!

Additionally, Baselga deliberately chose to ignore the financial disclosure rules of the American Association for Cancer Research. Not only that, but he omitted payments he had received from cancer research companies in articles he published in Cancer Discovery — the group’s own journal (for which, I might add, he had served as editor-in-chief).

And this all happened when he was president of the group.

But wait, there’s more!

For the last two years, Baselga has also played spin doctor with the results of not one, but two clinical trials funded by Roche — despite the fact that the outcomes were objectively disappointing.

And do you think he disclosed his multi-million-dollar ties to the company? Nope… not so much as a peep about it.

There’s more than dollars and cents at stake

Just like corporations buy politician’s votes, researchers are also hotly pursued bedmates. And the boundaries between academia and big business are riddled with enough holes to make these inappropriate alliances possible.

(I’ve been beating this drum for a long time — and this is exactly why…)

As a result of this collusion, you won’t find medical journals policing their disclosure standards — or professional societies doling out criticism — the way they should.

Never mind that a mere 10 years ago, Big Pharma was caught pulling so many strings behind the research scenes that the medical community launched an all-out effort to beef up its own standards regarding conflicts of interest.

So it appears that rules only apply to common folk like you and me. Because the penalties for these violations are about as watered down as they get. Journals and professional societies demand a printed, on-record correction at most. And that’s only when they bother to check for conflicts among authors in the first place.

And not surprisingly, the government allows it. Even though our health, and our lives, are at stake.

Keep in mind, Dr. Baselga runs clinical operations at Memorial Sloan Kettering. That gives him powerful influence, not only over any companies who want to conduct research there, but over actual cancer patients who are fighting tooth and nail to stay alive.

Like cockroaches in the cracks

If you’re thinking it sounds like a spy novel or some corporate espionage cautionary tale, you’re right. A whole series of them, in fact. Because these shady dealings reach way further than Dr. Baselga (who, for the record, doesn’t really think he did anything wrong).

For instance, Dr. Craig B. Thompson, Memorial Sloan Kettering’s chief executive, is just as compromised. He’s been accused of hiding corporate research while serving at a previous academic post. Dr. Thompson denied the allegations, but ultimately settled the lawsuits.

And get this: He’s on the board of Merck. And has conveniently failed to disclose his industry ties in well over half of the articles he’s co-written since he joined Memorial Sloan Kettering in 2013.

So as you can see, I’m not trying to skewer the reputation of one single man. Because much like cockroaches, if you see one, you can count on there being a dozen more still hiding in the cracks.

I want them all exposed to the harsh light of day. So that everyone can see, once and for all, that industry — not science or any real interest in public health — informs the bulk of our Holy Healthcare Commandments.

So there you have it: the real truth about the current state of mainstream health research. And in this case, the truth won’t just set you free… It could save your life.

P.S. Corrupt “research” like this is one of the very reasons I created my Essential Protocol to a Cancer-Free Future. I want you to have access to ALL of your options for preventing, fighting, and reversing this deadly disease. Because there are literally hundreds of safe, science-backed, natural solutions that can help keep you cancer-free. And the sad truth is, you simply won’t hear about them anywhere else.
