The real American horror story

By the time the day is over, you’re bound to have seen at least a snippet of some horror movie on TV. But the reality of what’s going on in this country is much scarier than any ghost story I’ve ever heard.

I’m referring, of course, to how poorly so many Americans eat these days.

On average, people consume 860 more calories per day than in 1984. But what’s worse is that the quality of that food has decreased significantly.

The food I remember eating as a kid…roast beef…chicken cacciatore…baked apples with cinnamon…doesn’t even taste the same anymore. The only way I can re-create those flavors I grew up with is to buy organic ingredients. The “regular” versions are simply too over-processed–and taste that way. But it’s not just my childhood favorites that have suffered. The American food supply is almost universally higher in sugar, trans fats, and white flour. And our genetics are just not ready for this onslaught and abuse.

As my mother used to say, “You can do as bad as you want–but never for as long as you want.” And that’s certainly the case here. Because the poor-quality foods so many people eat on a daily basis lead directly to two major things:

  1. obesity
  2. a constant state of inflammation throughout the body

And these are the two major triggers for diabetes.

Given the fact that diabetes is now the 7th leading cause of death in the United States, I’d say it’s do-or-die time.

It is time we take a stand–and time we stay away from the top five biggest offenders: trans fats, sugar, grains, sweetened beverages, and fruit juice.

If you avoid these five things, your health and your diabetes risk will improve by leaps and bounds–guaranteed. And it’s not as difficult as you might think.

Ordering healthy food from nearby farms is just a click away on the Internet for most of us.  Farmers markets are everywhere and cooking can be a lot of fun if you’ve got exciting recipes to try (like the ones you’ll find in my report, Dr. Fred’s Decadent Diet-Free Recipes…find out how you can get it for free when you sign up for my monthly Logical Health Alternatives newsletter).

The bottom line here is that food, cooking, and health shouldn’t scare you.  When you’ve got the right tools and support–which I’ll keep giving you here in the Reality Health Check and even more, in greater detail, in my monthly Logical Health Alternatives newsletter–getting and staying healthy can be easier and more fun that you ever imagined.
