This is why I go to work and write to you every day

I love sharing my experiences at my practice with you.  And I know I’ve mentioned how often I take care of entire multi-generational and extended families.

But this isn’t always the case. And just the other day, I had a very interesting encounter with a patient who I’ve seen for many, many years… and whose family doesn’t believe in how she handles her health.

Although this patient has been very healthy for most of our time together, we’ve experienced one rough patch—which we got through beautifully. So when she came in recently to go through her blood work, she was thrilled that every parameter got perfect marks.

Then, after discussing diet, supplements, and her life in general, she said to me: “My husband went to the doctor, and his doctor asked him how many eggs per week he generally ate. I asked him if the doctor asked him how many cookies he eats per week.”

And the smile that spread across my face after hearing that could have lit up the room. Because I know people follow my advice (this patient, especially). But to see someone take ownership of it… and to truly get my message… well, that’s really something—and something I wanted to share with you.

This patient really understood that the idea that eggs are somehow dangerous to your heart is just a myth. In fact, you should eat as many pastured, free-range eggs as you can —they’re a bonafide health food, after all!

She also knew that cholesterol is misunderstood, and certainly not anything to be worried about.

(For the record, her total cholesterol runs around 260… but with an HDL—the heart-healthy cholesterol—of 110, and a coronary calcium score test of 0.  If you don’t know what this means, let me clarify: It’s really good.)

To get the full scoop on that, I recommend diving into the archives of my monthly newsletter, Logical Health Alternatives, where you’ll find a number of in-depth articles on all of those numbers.

In fact, that was the thing I was most happy about. This patient immediately recognized how absurd it was that her husband’s doctor was concerned about eggs… and not concerned about how much sugar he was consuming.

Look, I realize nobody eats perfectly all of the time. And I’m not saying you should never eat sugar again—or that you can’t even have some every day. (If you’ve been a reader of mine for a while, then you know sugar is everywhere, even in “healthy” foods, like fruits and vegetables. Avoiding it completely, all the time, is a very tall order.)

All I’m saying is that no matter which diet you believe in—from plant-based to keto—all diet gurus agree on one thing: Ditch the sugar. There’s not a single circumstance imaginable where it makes sense for a doctor to grill a patient over eggs and not cookies.

And yet… here we are.

I’ve said it a thousand times, but I’ll say it again: Sugar kills. It’s the most dangerous anti-nutrient in our food supply. This patient gets it, and hearing just how deeply the message sunk in made me so incredibly proud.

And that, folks, is why I get up and go to work every day. And why I write these e-letters. Because I want you to get it—really get it—too.

And live the long, healthy life we all deserve because of it.
