Meditating…
Throwing “brain boosting” ingredients into a blender…
Popping the latest and greatest “brain pill…”
People will try virtually anything to support their aging brain. (I don’t blame them!)
But now, research shows a super simple way to BOOST your BRAIN power…
While you SLEEP.
A 226 percent uptick
According to a new study, simply inhaling a pleasant aroma during sleep can dramatically improve memory.
In a small randomized controlled trial (RCT), researchers exposed cognitively healthy individuals to the scent of an essential oil for two hours each night.
Over a six-month period, researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure how this simple habit influenced cognition.
Turns out, exposure to a pleasant scent improved brain function in an area linked to memory and cognition—a part that typically declines with age and in neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s.
In fact, subjects experienced an astounding 226 percent boost in memory, compared to a control group who were only exposed to a trace amount of the diffused scent.
Why isn’t this being SHOUTED from the rooftops? If Big Pharma came up with something this powerful… well, it would be everywhere.
Your sense of smell is important
Now, any odor we breathe in will have an effect on our bodies.
That’s because the olfactory (smell) part of the brain has a direct input to the memory center areas of the brain, like the hippocampus.
(The other four senses reach our brain through indirect pathways, which diminish their impact on brain power and memory.)
And when smell is compromised, memory often starts deteriorating. In fact, losing your smell is one of the first symptoms of Alzheimer’s—and it’s found in nearly all neurological and psychiatric disorders.
The good news is, inhaling essential oils can help improve your sense of smell… alongside your brain power.
In fact, I previously reported on a “magic concoction” that can rejuvenate your sense of smell, particularly after infection with COVID-19.
And in the new RCT, researchers used a different essential oil each week: rose, orange, eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, and lavender.
Smells good to me!
